PLAYING THE DIDGERIDOO

The Didgeridoo is an absolutely incredible instrument to learn and has effected many aspects of my life with regard to understanding breathing, strength and stamina. The healing nature of the tone and the impact it has on people at my shows and workshops is often profound.

I often have people say to me that they wish they could play the didgeridoo but they can not circular breath. This could be seen as saying something like I want to ride a motor cycle but I can can't do stunts like jumping over a car

Firstly you have to learn how to keep your balance, change gears, learn the power of your bike and how it react's to your energy in various situations and environments, learn how your bike reacts when you move your body weight around etc.

Once you learn all these things, jumping over a car is not so difficult after all, and you end up having a lot of fun along the way. This is one way I relate to circular breathing. I guarantee that I can teach you how to circular breath if this is your desire, but please keep in mind that you can still be a fantastic didgeridoo player even without being able to circular breath, just like you can be a fantastic motor cyclist and have a lot of fun on a motorcycle, without being able to jump over a car...

BEGINNERS

Lessons are %100 tailored to exactly what you want to learn, with the best techniques and tips to complement your specific direction and interests.

LEARN THE EASIEST POSSIBLE WAY TO PLAY THIS INSTRUMENT

So many times students have come to me saying they find it difficult to physically play the didgeridoo. After 2 minutes looking at their technique, it is not hard to see why. Why make it more difficult than it has to be? Learn the best techniques to easily play this instrument. "Let the instrument do the work for you"

BREATH AND CONTROL

Often people say that they don't have the lung power to the play the Didgeridoo. Although the lungs certainly play a big part in playing the Didgeridoo, it's actually not the lungs that are the issue. It's the shape of the mouth and also strength and stamina of the muscles in face and neck that need to learn the muscle memory associated with controlling the flow of air. Again, learning to do the least amount of work possible to control the air flow, back pressure, etc. Once you get this happening, the lungs can relax and you can let the instrument do the work for you.

LEARN WHAT YOU WANT

There are so many different ways to play the didgeridoo with regard to style, tone, music genres etc. Let me know what you like and what your goals are, and let me create the ideal lesson for you. Or, if you have no idea about any of this, I've got you covered and will assist you with everything you need to know, creating a lesson plan to fast track your learning and get you up and playing as quickly as possible.

TONE AND RHYTHM

Learn about the various tones available on the didgeridoo and how to create them. Learn about rhythm, how to play in time with other musicians, and how to create your own rhythmic variations in the style of music you like to play.

INTERMEDIATE

I often have people come to me saying things like I am feeling stuck in my playing and I'm not sure where to go from here, or I have been playing the same thing for such a long time and I'm ready to learn something new but just not sure how to do this. Perfect!

CIRCULAR BREATHING

If you have been playing some basic didgeridoo for awhile and would like to learn to circular breath, then you have come to the right place. I have literally taught 1000's of people to circular breath. I offer clear and concise methods and techniques to learn circular breathing, and I will tailor these methods to your skill level, capability etc. I will break down the various principles and techniques of circular breathing in a step by step formula that is very clear and easy to learn.  Every single student who has followed and practiced these instructions has succeeded, so will you.

CREATING YOUR SOUND

Feeling like you are unsure of how to get the sound and tones you are looking for? Or looking to understand more about the  Didgeridoos and techniques that create these sounds, how to change your technique for various keys and playing styles you are focusing on? No problem, let's have a chat and get it all worked out.

IMPROVISATION

This is my favourite thing to teach. Having spent many of my younger years studying classical music, I developed a fantastic attention to detail in regard to technique, perfection and replication of music, however improvisation was something very foreign to me.

It was not until I started my diploma and degree in jazz where I submerged into improvisation, which then lead me into blues, rock, metal, funk, Latin, speed, style, tone and so much more. I have so much more to say on this topic, but for now, one of my specialties is teaching improvisation, how to to create incredible parts, solos etc in whichever style and direction you wish to go, breaking down rhythms etc, and bringing out your soul through your solos and creativity. For me, this area of improvisation and endless creativity has been the most fulfilling aspect of my playing. As well as song writing...

SONG WRITING

The most rewarding aspect of my playing has been writing, creating, and recording original music. Myself and many of the best artist I have worked with say "The only thing feeling that comes close to writing new music is falling in love", and that pretty much sums it up for me. I have written, recorded, and released 7 albums of my original music, as well as been a studio musician on 100's of other artists original albums. Share with me what artists, sounds and styles you love, and I will tailor all I can to give you the inspiration and direction you need to create your music and share your magic.

ADVANCED

I have been blessed to assist many of my advanced students in being accepted into Tafe, University, and Music Schools they have always dreamed of being accepted into. I have also taught and lectured at many of these institutions around the world. The more I learn, the more I realise there is to learn.

ADVANCED TECHNIQUES

There is a whole range of advanced aspects of didgeridoo playing and happy to look at any of them with you. Toots and harmonics, bounce breathing, power play, vocalisations, etc. Happy to work on anything you are wanting to focus on.

SPEED, RHYTHM & POLY RHYTHMS

I offer a vast knowledge of music theory, aural training techniques, advanced chord structures, advanced scalic and improvisational techniques, rhythm's, cross rhythms, poly rhythms, odd time signatures and much more. I am able to tailor this around any genre of music you are wanting to go with. I offer clear and versatile techniques tailored to your style to increase awareness and versatility in knowledge, technique, speed, and general effortlessness in playing exactly as you want to play.

ADVANCED IMPROVISATION

This is my favourite thing to teach. Having spent many of my younger years studying classical music, I developed a fantastic attention to detail in regard to technique, perfection and replication of music. However, improvisation was something very foreign to me. It was not until I started my degree in jazz where I submerged into improvisation, which then lead me into blues, rock, tribal, metal, funk, world, Latin, speed, style, tone and so much more. I have so much more to say on this topic, but for now, one of my specialties is teaching improvisation, how to to create incredible solos in which ever style and direction you wish to go, breaking down melody, rhythm, and bringing out your soul through your solos and creativity. For me, this area of improvisation and endless creativity has been the most for filling aspect of my playing.
